Why Use This Tool?

Verify Mail Servers

Many email providers will reject emails from IP addresses that do not have a valid Reverse DNS (PTR) record.

Identify Network Owners

Find out which hosting company or ISP owns a specific IP address by looking at the reverse hostname.

Security Auditing

Analyze suspicious IP addresses in your server logs to see where they resolve back to.

Understanding Your Results

PTR Record

Pointer records resolve an IP address to a domain or hostname, the exact opposite of an A record.

in-addr.arpa

The special domain name space used for reverse DNS lookups in IPv4. The IP address is reversed and appended with .in-addr.arpa.

No Records Found

It is very common for residential or dynamic IPs to not have a reverse DNS record configured.
